Marussia F1 test driver Maria de Villota seriously injured in testing accident

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

The Marussia F1 team’s test driver, Spaniard María de Villota, was taken to hospital by air ambulance today after a collision in testing at Duxford Aerodrome.

At the end of her first installation run, the car she was driving had a low-speed collision with the loading ramp of the team’s support truck. According to BBC Cambridgeshire presenter Chris Mann, the car “suddenly accelerated” into the rear of the vehicle. The Marussia team released a statement an hour and a half after the accident, stating that she had been transferred to hospital, and a further statement would be issued once her condition had been assessed.

A spokesman for the East of England ambulance service, Gary Sanderson, said de Villota had “[…] sustained life-threatening injuries and following treatment at the scene by paramedics, she has been taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for further care.” According to witnesses, she was motionless for about fifteen minutes as medical teams attended to her, but did move her hands before being taken away from the test track. Medical charity Magpas, whose volunteer paramedics attended the accident, reported she had sustained injuries to her head and face, and was in a ‘stable condition’ when she reached the hospital.

Marussia reported her as conscious later in the afternoon: “Since Maria’s arrival at the hospital at approximately 10.45am this morning, she has been receiving the best medical attention possible at the hospital, which is the region’s major trauma centre. Maria is conscious and medical assessments are ongoing. The team will await the outcome of these assessments before providing further comment. The team’s first priority at this time is Maria and her family.”

De Villota was announced as Marussia’s test driver in March, having prior experience driving for Alan Docking Racing in Superleague Formula in Spain.

KKE: Interview with the Greek Communist Party

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Wikinews reporter Iain Macdonald has performed an interview with Dr Isabella Margara, a London-based member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). In the interview Margara sets out the communist response to current events in Greece as well as discussing the viability of a communist economy for the nation. She also hit back at Petros Tzomakas, a member of another Greek far-left party which criticised KKE in a previous interview.

The interview comes amid tensions in cash-strapped Greece, where the government is introducing controversial austerity measures to try to ease the nation’s debt-problem. An international rescue package has been prepared by European Union member states and the International Monetary Fund – should Greece require a bailout; protests have been held against government attempts to manage the economic situation.

Structured Vs. Unstructured Play Is That What Really Matters?

You may have heard the terms ‘structured’ and ‘unstructured’ play and wondered–which is better for my child? That’s a bit like asking, ‘Which is better: fruits or vegetables?’ Someone who eats healthy is going to have both without even thinking about it. If you are providing plenty of playtime opportunities for your child, then both kinds of play are taking place. Structured play has a set of rules with specific objectives. Most games fall under the category of structured play: card games, board games and classic outdoor games like red-light green-light and tag are all structured activities. Putting puzzles together is a structured activity. So is following directions to assemble a toy, model airplane or Lego theme set. Organized sports-soccer, hockey, tennis, etc.–are all examples of structured activities. Generally speaking, when your child is engaging in structured play, she is seeking the most efficient way to achieve pre-existing objectives.Unstructured play is open ended with unlimited possibilities. Playing with blocks is unstructured play. So is coloring, drawing or painting on blank paper. Deciding how to play with a toy airplane or doll is unstructured play. Inventing games to play is unstructured activity. So is running around the playground or park. Generally speaking, when your child is engaging in unstructured play, she is in the process of establishing her own objectives. A consideration more important than structured vs. unstructured play is to ask whether the activity holds your child’s full attention. When your child is fully engaged in an activity, she is arranging and absorbing its meaning. She is finding reward in the act of understanding. She’s enjoying figuring it out, whether the “it”–the activity–is structured or unstructured. If you make a habit of providing quality playtime to your child, she’ll make a habit of taking ownership of an activity and applying her ingenuity and creativity to their fullest. That’s a valuable habit–a lifetime learning habit that does not have its origin in structured or unstructured play, but rather in quality play.

Dell delays filing of financials as accounting investigation continues

Friday, March 30, 2007

Dell Inc., a global leader in computer hardware manufacturing and sales, announced yesterday that it will delay filing of its annual performance report, the Form 10-K, required for compliance with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Nasdaq listing rules.

In a press release, Dell explained that an audit committee of the company’s board of directors is carrying out an investigation into accounting and financial reporting issues. The company stated that it would delay filing of the 10-K since the investigation had not been completed.

The internal investigation has found evidence of accounting errors, misconduct, and deficiencies in areas of financial control.

The chairman of Dell’s audit committee, Thomas Luce III, indicated that the delay in filing would extend past the April 3, 2007 deadline as well as an April 18, 2007 extension date. “As we move toward the conclusion of our investigation, we are committing the time and resources required to ensure a thorough and comprehensive review and resolution of all identified issues and the implementation of appropriate remedial measures,” said Luce.

The investigation is to determine whether the restatement of any financial disclosures are warranted, based on the accounting errors identified. The probe will also assess whether there are deficiencies in Dell’s internal control over financial reporting.

U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo clarifies ‘nuke Mecca’ comments

Friday, July 22, 2005

Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO) has clarified his earlier statement that “you could take out their holy sites,” in the event of a nuclear attack upon the U.S. by Islamic terrorists. Rep. Tancredo has refused to make any apologies, saying “When we bombed Hiroshima, when we bombed Dresden, we punished a lot of people who were not necessarily (guilty). Not every German was a member of the Nazi Party. You do things in war that are ugly.” However, Tancredo emphasized that he was speaking hypothetically and not necessarily suggesting policy.

The remarks, made in a July 15th radio interview, hosted by Pat Campbell of WFLA in Orlando, Florida, have drawn support from conservatives groups such as Northeast Intelligence Network and Free Republic, and have offended the American Muslim community. In the interview, Tancredo discussed his request for information from the Justice Department regarding the claim of evangelical Christian journalist Joseph Farah that al-Qaida has smuggled multiple nuclear weapons into the U.S.

Peace tax campaigners turned down by UK judge

Friday, July 22, 2005

The Peace Tax Seven, who are campaigning to have the 10 per cent of their taxes which go to Britain’s defence budget diverted to non-military uses, have had their case rejected by a High Court judge.

The judicial review was called for under article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights which guarantees freedom ‘to manifest one’s religion or beliefs’ and which was made a part of British law in 1998. The Convention includes the right to conscientious objection and the campaigners claim that this gives them the right not to pay other people to go to war on their behalf.

Their statement to the court said: “We want to make a positive contribution to society by paying our tax in full. We object in conscience to paying others to kill on our behalf, but current tax policy forces us to do just that.”

The courtroom had to be enlarged to make room for supporters and the judge listened to the case for three hours.

Roy Prockter, an accountant and campaign member as well as a Quaker, said that the judge told them that “our case has no possibility of being resolved in the British courts”. According to the Guardian, the judge suggested they take the case to Strasbourg. Roy said that the members were going to take time for reflection as they awaited the written judgment from the judge.

Brand New Book Gives Exceptional Suggestions About Finance Along With Investing

Brand-new Book Gives Exceptional Suggestions about Finance along with Investing

by

This book\’s concept \”Wealth Is often a Choice: The easiest way Wisely\” says all this. Wealth is often a choice. No one particular gets prosperous without starting the process of to accomplish that, whether it can be deciding to acquire a lottery priced or pragmatically planning retirement. One thing people needs to do is create conscious decisions that they may have wealth after which it set goals to achieve that wealth. Naturally, the goals have to be realistic, which in turn rules out and about the lottery. In \”Wealth Is often a Choice\” John Studinger supplies valuable suggestions for placing realistic ambitions based by himself experiences along with his decades of aiding his clientele increase his or her wealth.

Throughout \”Wealth Is often a Choice, \” Studinger corelates personal experiences-his child years in Manistique, Michigan, his being employed by a agency that made it easier for prison personnel with handling their profit the Marquette Side branch Prison, various firms she has worked pertaining to in Michigan, and instances of the clients she has helped growing their riches, as effectively as instances of clients who would not grow riches and precisely what held these people back. He in addition tells his very own story involving personally learning how to handle his income so he has not been in debts. He commenced writing \”Wealth Is often a Choice\” since he planned to leave the sons a new money highway map need to anything get lucky and him. That notion grew into the most effective books in money management We\’ve ever go through.

\”Wealth Is often a Choice\” shines for a lot of reasons. For starters, a lot I realize about income I figured out from Suze Orman. Her textbooks and television show are amazing about income management, but Orman or anything else focus mostly on the way to get out involving debt, and tips on how to save income by wasting less. Studinger references debt lightly, but they notes a large number of good textbooks already exist about them. His function is instead to help you us figure out how to grow each of our money, and that is what We\’ve most planned to learn. I\’m apparently one of several fortunate few in the united states not in financial trouble who has become good at conserving money. My need have been considering what about the income I save-how to speculate it, what you should invest the idea in, tips on how to know no matter whether an investment are going to be good as well as bad.

I get read textbooks about good funds along with stocks and tips on how to determine the ones will certainly grow. Almost all of it My spouse and i quickly forget about. What ended up being missing through the equation, and Studinger will be the only author I realize who features made this specific clear, is that this ultimate target is determine how much you\’ll want to retire, after which it to course your advancement regularly to that target.

One place Studinger insures extensively, which is not underestimated, will be the importance of obtaining a reliable counselor. He alerts us a large number of advisors sell clients products determined by how very much commission they may receive in lieu of what is the most suitable for you. He explains to us for you to ask analysts upfront what the main benefit is for many years, while reminding us even though one investment are going to pay off to the advisor over another, it will not mean many of us shouldn\’t find the investment that will aid the counselor more, we only also need to choose why is most sense for the investment requires. After most, advisors deserve to generate a good existing off his or her work provided these are giving his or her clients good advice. Studinger explains to us for you to ask about three basic concerns of analysts before we invest: What will be the rate involving return? What on earth is the threat? What will be the cost?

Beyond obtaining a good counselor, Studinger recommends we discover a good application that allows us to track each of our investments. We\’ve tried for you to track our investments by simply paper phrases, making spreadsheets and many others., but it can be tedious along with I never get caught up with it. A application sounds like ideal. Studinger\’s individual wealth operations firm, JPStudinger Class, provides plenty management option tool that may be web-based consequently clients could track his or her investments.

Really the only slight catch I see within this book include the examples involving wealthy clientele Studinger employs. The tastes them get significant incomes starting from $80, 000 every year and up. Most Americans will not have such incomes, so some may find this sort of numbers overwhelming. Unfortunately, it is those with such substantial incomes who probably will be perusing this book. On the other hand, the individual that makes $30, 000 12 months will obtain the advice given equally useful. Never allow the figures intimidate anyone. A model\’s current income doesn\’t need to ascertain whether someone contains the choice for being wealthy. As Studinger highlights, it\’s with regards to making very good choices while using money you\’ve got that could make the big difference.

\”Wealth Is often a Choice\” is surely an obvious to see book. Contrary to with a lot of investment textbooks, I certainly not once thought lost as well as confused. Studinger writes in a very straightforward fashion, and the honest suggestions leaves me without having doubt that they has your reader\’s best interests at cardiovascular. He features great cartoons during the entire book for you to illustrate the discussion, along with he employs effective analogies, including basketball offense along with defense along with archery anchorman points to acquire his things across. I feel male audience will especially be capable of relate for you to his examples and locate the suggestions practical.

Some people read with regards to money as well as tell them selves someday they may get his or her finances jointly. This e-book will invigorate people for this. Many audience, after filling out this e-book, will know that wealth is often a choice and turn into inspired to generate that alternative for them selves. I recognize \”Wealth Is often a Choice\” features encouraged me to examine my fiscal goals along with plan greater for retirement living.

Cleaning Out The Fire Residue In Your Chimney}

Cleaning Out The Fire Residue In Your Chimney

by

Aydan CorkernHave you ever had a chimney fire? You don’t want one to happen because it’s like having a giant Roman candle. You need to keep this clean because the chimney collects what is called creosote, and over time it causes your chimney to fall apart.

If it has been a couple of years since you have had your fireplace cleaned, you should find a company who specializes in the cleaning of these chimneys. This very dirty chimney can either scare you to death from the noises it makes or it can ruin your chimney for good. It might not cause a fire in your home, but it will cost you to replace it. Each time you make a fire in your chimney, you have this creosote develop, and it actually peels and curls off the lining of your chimney.

If this creosote soot is allowed to set over time, it will start shooting out fireballs out of the top of your chimney that could cause your home to catch on fire. The worst kind of wood to burn is pine, as the level of this creosote is a lot higher. It can make your fireplace like a miniature volcano that can and will bring your house down in a matter of minutes.

Chimney fires can be controlled more easily than most fires, but they still can be bad so be careful. If this happens call your local fire department. Put the fire in your fireplace out with the use of a fire extinguisher or some sand, if you have it, and maybe a wet towel. Then you will need only to wait and hope for the best. It is always better money-wise and safety-wise to just have your chimney cleaned on a regular basis.

With the higher cost of heating, you will find that more people are starting to burn more wood and using their chimneys more often to help lower the cost of their heating bills. As the more people that start using their fireplaces, they will need more companies that might be close to come and clean out their fireplaces and chimneys. The first thing that you should do before you even start using your chimney or fireplace is find someone who can clean and inspect it to make sure that it is in good working order, as they can tell you if it is okay or if you need to have some repairs done to it first.
